Canadian Academy of Legal Studies in Business Conference

The Desautels Business Law Accelerator is pleased to support the Canadian Academy for Legal Studies in Business. The CALSB’s mission is to promote and encourage scholarship and superior teaching of business law in Canadian universities and colleges, to foster a better understanding between university and college administrators and those engaged in teaching and research in the field of business law, to develop and maintain a friendly and cooperative relationship among teachers and scholars in the area of business law and to encourage and promote high ethical standards in the conduct of business.

The Hockey Conference

The Hockey Conference is a biennial event held at various locations throughout North America. The conference is committed to advancing dialogue and scholarship by bringing together a diverse and inclusive group of hockey scholars, sport leaders, professionals, and community members. Desautels was proud to support the June 2025 conference that was hosted in Winnipeg, Canada, by the Hockey Conference Committee, which includes a range of scholars, graduate students and community leaders from across Canada. Third Annual Art Braid Business Law Case Competition:
Celebrating a Legacy of Excellence in Business Law
Edwin Arthur Braid, Q.C. (1934 – 2020), also known as ‘Art’, was a beloved former Dean and Professor at Robson Hall, the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law. Art was widely respected for his kindness, intellectual rigor, and dedication to teaching, but above all, he was deeply passionate about business law. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of law students, particularly through the Art Braid Business Law Case Competition.

Canadian National Negotiation Competition
Nine years ago, the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law hosted the inaugural national negotiation competition at Robson Hall, which has been run annually since then. The size of the competition has been growing each year, both in terms of total teams participating and number of law schools represented.
