CACE Bursary 2024/25
Following the Annual General Meeting in 2023, the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (“CACE”) established a bursary to provide financial assistance to students in a Canadian Law School enrolled in a Labour Law, Employment Law or Human Rights Course.
One $2,000 bursary is available for the 2024/2025 academic year (the “Bursary”) on the terms set out below.
Eligibility Criteria
The following are the eligibility criteria for the Bursary:
- The applicant must be enrolled in a recognized Faculty of Law in Canada for 2024/2025 academic year;
- The applicant must be enrolled in a labour law, employment law or human rights course in a recognized Faculty of Law in Canada for the 2024/2025 academic year; and
- The applicant agrees to write a research paper on a legal issue that would be of interest to management side labour and employment lawyers as members of CACE.
Application Process
The applicant must provide the following documents in support of a Bursary application:
- Documentary proof that the applicant is enrolled in a labour law, employment law or human rights course in a recognized Faculty of Law in Canada for the 2024/2025 academic year. Students doing a Masters in Law may also apply.
- A short essay, up to 500 words, describing how the applicant meets the eligibility criteria and why the applicant is studying Labour\Employment Law or Human Rights, including a brief outline of the Research paper they will prepare that would be of interest to management-side labour and employment lawyers as members of CACE.
- Professionally formatted resume, including leadership, academic or work experience with emphasis, where applicable, to the applicant’s Research paper.
- It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all documents are consolidated into a single PDF file and e-mailed to Tracy@proconadvantage.com no later than November 30, 2024.
- CACE’s Board of Directors, or a committee thereof, will evaluate the applications and select an applicant that best meets the eligibility criteria and terms of the Bursary. The successful applicant will be advised of the Board’s decision with respect to the Bursary by no later than December 31, 2024.
- The successful applicant will be invited to attend the annual CACE Future Leaders Conference; reasonable travel expenses for in-Canada travel will be reimbursed or paid for by CACE. Reasonable expenses to include economy airfare and hotel.
The successful applicant will be recognized at the CACE Future Leaders Conference. The successful applicant will be provided with the Bursary funds on a date between January 1st and January 31st, conditional upon providing proof of tuition paid equal to or greater than $2,000.
The successful applicant agrees to submit the research paper on or before March 1, 2025 to Tracy@proconadvantage.com.
The successful applicant agrees to return the Bursary funds to CACE if the applicant discontinues the intended course of study for any reason during the 2024\25 academic year or is unable to prepare the research paper as stipulated.
By submitting an application, an applicant agrees to the terms of the Bursary, and consents to publication of his/her name, essay, research paper or portions thereof, in CACE publications, including CACE’s website.
