The Rod Senft Lecture in Family Business Law 2022
The Desautels Centre for Private Enterprise and the Law is pleased to host the The Rod Senft Lecture in Family Business Law as a webinar through the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship Webinar Series.
When subsequent generations of highly successful entrepreneurs start their own businesses, the intergenerational knowledge they bring with them can greatly assist them as they grow and build their new business – particularly when that business is highly specialized and operates within a highly regulated environment. The family-owned business is a very large part of the Manitoba economy and for the most part is a very successful framework for business.
The birth of Western Canadian Aerial (WCA) represents the third generation of the Richardson family embarking on a successful private enterprise and presents an intriguing and rare Canadian / Manitoba story.
In 2016, Sprague Richardson purchased Ken Kane Aerial Spray, a recognized leader in the Manitoba agricultural aviation business. An agriculture pilot himself, Sprague has successfully grown WCA into Canada’s largest aerial application/crop protection company, with expansion into forestry protection in Ontario and Quebec. WCA now works more areas across the prairies than ever before, while continuing to expand forestry protection in Ontario and Quebec .
Join us for the latest installment of the Rod Senft Lecture in Family Business Law Series entitled “Family Business – The Next Generation”. In this webinar, Sprague Richardson owner/President will take us on the Western Canadian Aerial journey from purchase to growth, the challenges faced, the regulatory complexities and legal requirements of the industry, and how intergenerational knowledge and family support assisted in building a successful company.
